Spring Home Maintenance 5 things you need to do in MN
5 Essential Spring Maintenance Tips for Minnesota Homeowners
Springtime in Minnesota brings about the promise of warmer weather and outdoor activities. However, it's also the perfect time for homeowners to address any wear and tear that their homes may have endured during the harsh winter months.
Check your roof and Gutter
Inspecting your roof for any damage caused by snow, ice, or strong winds is essential. Look for missing or damaged shingles, cracks, or signs of water leakage. Additionally, clean out your gutters and downspouts
Clean dryer vent
Maintaining a clean dryer vent is crucial for the efficiency and safety of your home. Over time, lint and debris can accumulate in the vent, restricting airflow and increasing the risk of fire. Regular cleaning not only improves the performance of your dryer but also reduces energy consumption and extends its lifespan.
Test your sump pump.
Fill your sump pump with water to allow the float mechanism to activate. You should see/hear the water get pumped out. If that doesn’t happen make sure it's plugged in, and if not it will need to be fixed or replaced.
Look for moisture in the basement.
With the snow melt and rain we get in the spring it is always best to check your basement for moisture, peeling paint, mildew odor, efflorescence, and standing water. Make sure your gutters and downspouts are in place, and the sump pump is working.
Downspouts.
One main common reason for wet basements in the spring is the downspout got discounted and water is being poured next to the foundation. Go around your house to make sure they are all connected.
